Dr. Susan Mende, DVM, ABVP

Dr. Susan Mende, DVM, ABVP graduated from the University of Illinois’ College of Veterinarian Medicine in 1991. She spent two-years working as an intern at Southern Illinois Equine, an exclusively large animal practice (85% equine and 15% cattle), in Southern Illinois. She then moved to southeastern Ohio for a two-year surgical fellowship at Milliron Clinic, a companion animal practice (65% small animal/exotic and 35% equine) that specialized in high-end surgical procedures for all animals (orthopedic, colic, etc). The next several years, while her son Nicolas was small, were spent in part-time companion animal and equine practice until she started Wolf Creek Equine in 1998.
Dr. Mende is dedicated to the horse, her profession, and continuing education. She grew up on a 1000-acre grain farm in Northern Illinois and her interest in animals and horses began, like many, as a kid. She worked for 6 years during college and veterinary school as a veterinary assistant to Dr. Thomas Monfort of Illinois Equine Center. During veterinary school at the University of Illinois she worked as a veterinary assistant in the teaching hospital. She became a Certified Animal Chiropractor in 1997. These credentials require re-certification every three (3) years and chiropractic-specific continuing education annually. She is Board Certified in Equine Practice by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. The American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) is a certification that requires 50 hours of continuing education annually and re-certification every 10 years. Dr. Mende also has advanced training in equine reproductive techniques, locomotor ultrasound and anesthesia. She is a member of The International Society for Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP), the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
